iPhone 4 in India with Vodafone Essar

Vodafone Essar plans to bring the world's thinnest smartphone, iPhone 4, to India in the next few months.

"Vodafone Essar will launch iPhone 4, the thinnest smartphone in the world, in India in the coming months," the company said in a release in Mumbai on Tuesday.

The iPhone 4 has a new camera system, capable of video-conferencing and recording high-definition video.
Apple's iPhone 4 has the highest resolution display ever built into a phone.
With the advent of 3G, Vodafone intends to boost its sales by launching the iPhone 4 into the Indian market.
The iPhone has emerged as Apple's top product, overtaking its Macintosh computer and iPod.

Though Apple's CEO Steve Jobs remains mum on the iPhone 4's India release, Vodafone has blown the whistle that it will release the version in India. The company expects to bring the locked version by next month. Details on the India launch is yet to be revealed.

The flat body is only 9.3 millimeters thin, 24 percent thinner than the iPhone 3GS at its thickest. It feels great in the hand, and at the keynote Steve Jobs remarked, "Its closest kin is a beautiful old Leica camera. We're going to take the biggest leap since the original iPhone," says Jobs as quoted by Xinhua. The metal buttons, shiny edge, and the way the flat-edged case feels more camera-like when you're shooting pictures, like a particularly slim point-and-shoot.

It's 4.8 ounces, just 0.1 ounces heavier than the iPhone 3GS, an imperceptible difference. The SIM card slot has moved from the top to the side, a micro SIM slot, so changing networks will be lot tougher than earlier.

He added that the new model has a longer battery life that will allow 40 percent more talk time. It features a five megapixel camera with LED flash, HD video recording, Apple's A4 processor and a 3-axis gyro. iPhone 4 comes with iOS 4, the newest version of the Apple's mobile operating system, which includes over 100 new features and 1500 new APIs for developers. iOS 4 features Multitasking, Folders, enhanced Mail, deeper Enterprise support and Apple's new iAd mobile advertising platform.

The iPhone 4 will go on sale June 24 in five countries including the US, France, Germany, Britain and Japan, and will be available in 18 more countries in July.

The the 16-gigabyte model will cost $199 in the US and the 32-gigabyte model will cost $299, he said.
