'wireless smart charging pad with information display’ - uPad
MicroSoft is working on a dual-sided wireless inductive charging pad for peripherals like cell phones, media players etc. Apart from charging, the device also offers a compact external OLED display which shows alerts and updates, accelerometer, internet access and ambient lights.
Microsoft in a limited numbers of souvenir for Microsoft Research Asia's 10th anniversary produced a prototype device made by Microsoft Research Asia named "uPad". According to Microsoft patent, devices can be placed on any side of the pad for wireless charging, inductively. It's not yet clear whether the device will be mass manufactured or released outside of Asia.
The available pictures shows the prototype of the device named ‘uPad.’ You can place the device to be charged any where, and the integrated accelerometer and load detector will detect which side of the uPad is facing up and the charging will be done through that side. The device can operates in different modes like idle, load detection and charging modes.
The OLED screen will gives the information about news headlines, sports scores and weather conditions and updated from an internet connected PC (either wired or wirelesss)
